Joy

Joyce is another girl, born rich and lucky, she wants what she can’t have in life. It’s not because any specific reason, except she never wants to work hard in life. She was fed with a silver spoon in her mouth her whole life, she looked at the world a different way than most people. She thought the world was the most perfect place, whimsical and mystical. She had no idea.

Joyce would perform the same events every day in the morning. She would wake up, get ready for the day, tell her assistant what he plan for the day was, then would be off on her way. She had always had some sort of schedule, she was a very organized person. And with this, she would begin her day. The one day Joyce was suppose to go on a nature walk with some buddies, she canceled and went to a movie premiere of a boy she thought was cute. They exchanged numbers and she felt like she was on top of the world.

Although when Joyce woke up, her life was different. The world that once was perfect and meaningful turned into a world that was disappointed with the decisions of regret.

A text message was binged to Joyce’s phone.
Brian: Hey, thanks for ditching me on my birthday.
Joyce: Sorry, something suddenly came up.
Brian: Yeah, I can tell. Obviously that something is more important than my birthday.
Joyce: Brian, you’re my little brother, I wouldn’t ditch you for ANYTHING. But like I said, something came up.
Brian: You didn’t even say ‘Happy Birthday’!
Joyce: Sorry. Happy Birthday J
Brian: I don’t care now. You really ruined something that was supposed to be special to me.
Joyce: I said I was sorry I don’t know what else to do.
Brian: Maybe you should ditch people, then you would have nothing to be sorry about.

The text went back and forth the real big fight they have ever gotten into. Later that evening, when returning home, Joyce found a note on the front door :

“Joyce, your brother was very upset about his hiking trip. He wanted you to go. He now asks to go on a trip to Mexico. As harsh as this may seem, we left and you were not invited. He needs some him time, the world can’t always be about you, sweetie. Sorry for the trouble. The house is locked up and for the month you can stay at your apartment. The stuff from the house that is ‘yours’ has already been taken over there. The new apartment is on the beach a nice little place you’ll enjoy. Sunny Shore Drive 445. Max has the directions. Have fun!

~Mom

WHAT!?!?!!? My family left me here alone, while they went to MEXICO? I can’t believe this. I thought everything was going to be okay.

“Max, where are you?” I slurred out so fast I had to think about what I just said.
“Joy calm down, I’m at your new apartment.” Max said.
There was a long pause.
“And my goodness it’s great here, I’ll send you the directions, real easy to find, IT’S HUGE. See you soon, bye doll!” He said happy with excitement.

My assistant knew my family was leaving for a trip and I was not taken along with because? Oh that’s right, I didn’t go hiking with my brother! Somehow I managed to cool down, I could only think of what if. Life on my own, it’s going to be pretty tough. So on the long drive down on Sunny Shore Drive, 431, 432… 441...445. Wow, this place is huge. The car stopped and I got out, this is going to be my new adventure. My new world. The way I like things, just as I walked up to the door, millions of thought jumbled in my head of what could come of me? I’m just going to have to wait and find out.

Rainbow Earth Sunshine.

The blue cool air.
The warm orange rays.
The light pink nice breeze.
The green colors of nature.
The yellow smell of the sun.
The purple noise of buzzing.

2000 years ago the earth was this way, now the world in black and white. Fire’s roar everywhere, no nature is around. The World in blank, ruined by what happened years ago. Now the world is black and white, it’s not even considered Earth but the doomed planet and the sunshine we used to love, is now dark and dead.

The Perfect Dress

Silky smooth fabric with the warm and popping colors of blue, green and shades in between, even yellows. This is the textures and colors of the perfect dress. Unlike all the other dresses with solid colors and simple designs; this one stands out. It beats the competition by far. All the other dress, although beautiful are still missing something. This dress is missing none of those things. The perfect dress has no flaws and ties in prefect with anybody. It’s not just colors and texture the overall appeal and feel of the dress is what makes it truly perfect. The design is glamorous, a dress with tiny straps holding a dress that becomes flat further towards the bottom with just the perfect amount of poof. The small belt adds the perfect amount of detail to the dress along with the blue bedazzled silver buttons atop the shoes. A dress wouldn’t be complete without the more expensive than the dress, shoes! Among any other dress, this dress is the perfect dress.

Farm life...

Finally it’s here. The very first day of the year is arriving. From this day forward, one month until my new begging. Just the thought of having all the new children at school and the groups that I might fit into. Even the teachers and classes. Maybe it’s silly how such a thing can make somebody pleased. But it’s much better to me, Eliza, than staying in my farm house all day.

4:02—The leak in my ceiling will be fixed soon, mother swears by it. All I can feel is my now soaked head. My body is frozen, “the cold nights don’t help the cold blooded”, a boy from over the ridge had said. Every time I had heard the boy speak those words I was glad I was in school. If he would have stayed in school he would have known that animals are cold blooded…People on the other hand, are warm blooded. Another drop on my forehead makes my whole body shiver. All I want now, is a warm bed with no leaky ceilings. Slowly with the dreams of a nice warm bed and me laying peacefully make my eyes shut again. Calmly in a relaxed way, I drift back into my slumber.

5:34—Awake again. This is unusual, I never wake more than once in the night. Now that I’m awake fully and alarmed by the amount of water lying around me, I stare at the ceiling. Where the once was small hole is now a large watermelon shape in my ceiling. I cry softly and once again stare at what is my room. The room was always bare. From walking in the cracked door a small bed with cream sheets welcome you. To the right is a small dresser with a rocking chair beside it. One small rug with flowers woven into the pattern, is placed in between the gap of the bed and dresser. The light in the room is dim, a small shade lamp on top my dresser is the only light my room has ever known. Even the walls are bare, a simple white with some wall paper on the top corners were falling apart.

5:56—Now, I get up. After starring at the blank room around me, I walk slowly to my door and stare through the cracks. I can hear the fighting below of my mother and father. Mother’s upset father wouldn’t take the job that was available at the bankers office. The money that the bankers office was offering, was much better than the money that father made at the car shop. At our small car shop, father didn’t make much. He had only made money when there was large cars involved. Yet all the money that he made went straight to the big guys in suits. They collected money ever month and apparently mother said we were in a debt to the big guys. Another crash makes my train of thought vanish; slowly I gaze back to the cracks. Through the cracks I can see large men in suits. Those are the big guys in the suits. I’ve never seen them, but heard of them. More crashed and bangs get my full attention. I’m starring at the men beat my father and tell him, he no longer has any more time. Mother is crying and begs all she has left is our home. The old rusty truck was taken by the men last month. Again my attention was brought to the men in my home, when I heard screaming. My mother yelled for me and my cousin to get out of the house.

6:00—After my mother told me to leave the house. I ran from my room into my cousin’s room. Vienna had been living with us because the death of her parents. Her mother was my mom’s sister. Although the thought of having a sister might be appalling, Vienna was very intelligent and nothing like I ever expected. She had also been watching the fight. I heard a bang and turned to my rocking chair. Suddenly with a cloud of dust and a loud pop, the wall broke. Vienna grabbed me under her arm and told me to be quite.
“These men are dangerous. We are going to work our way to the garden, kind of like hide and go seek. But listen, if they see you…game over” She whispered seriously, while starring into my eyes.
“They might kill papa” I whimpered.
“Shh. The game has begun” She spoke.
With those last words, no more speech had been spoken. We worked our way through the holes in my home and the junk that had been gathered to sell, incase the men did come. The only issue my mother had with selling the items in the rooms around me, they were her sisters. More screaming worried me, never did I want my parents to be hurt. This had been like a nightmare, soon I hoped I would wake up. I never woke up…where I thought I would be.

10:00—“Finally you’re up” Said a large man with an Italian accent.
“Who are you?” I questioned. With no answer I continued to look around.
“Where am I…And where is Vienna, my cousin?” I question some more.
This man still didn’t answer and remained like he was. Once with papa, I had seen a kidnapping show. The girl survived being kidnapped, because she remember her surroundings, later that night she escaped and her kidnappers were caught. Not trying to be so obvious I looked around at the room and the room surprised me. The whole room was blank, white walls, hard wood floors, a simple light, one white door and one window. That window had the attention of the man in the room.
“You like the view?” I asked…Only to hope he would answer.
“Yes. It’s different from Italy. New York is a unique place.” He responded, with his eyes locked out the window.
He said New York, as in the city. Mom always said that we would visit this place, but money was tight now. Vienna had been to New York, she lived there until her parents had passed away.
“Umm, why are we here?” I said bravely.
“No more talking” He grunted.
The room again went silent and I slowly started to fall back asleep. In my dreams I had my mom and papa with me. Vienna was even there, and we now were in a new house.

11:32—The loud noise of trucks staring up and children yelling startled me. I was now awake and in a new location. This location still had no Vienna or mom and papa. It was beach like, similar to the pictures Vienna brought when she came to our house. She explained the pictures to be a place called, Florida. She is no stranger to visiting places, papa had said once. I guess she had been all around the world. Places I would only ever get to see in magazines and on the TV.

12:00—Some men had gathered children of the same age to put in vans. The van’s were off to take us to a building. I didn’t know what would happen after that. I was in the van with mostly boys and four girls. None of them spoke and never made eye contact with anybody. It was odd. Vienna was 15 and she was on another van, at least that’s what I had hoped.

1:00—A large BOOM and the van was stopped. We had been at a large building that said “Orphanage”, in large letters on the front and side of the large building. I had never seen a place like this. Slowly I walked, but still starred at the building. Eventually the line I had been walking in was called to a stop. A lady wearing a nice outfit, with nice hair stood at the back door of the “Orphanage” . She said something and the child either walked in the door or was taken back to the van.

1:46—I was finally in line for the lady. She looked at me and asked,
“Where is it you came from”?
“Georgia, Braselton Georgia.” I spoke softy
“And your name”?
“Shanna Brooks”. I spoke confident. I loved my name. It was unique like my personality.
“She’s good” Spoke the lady again and grinned at me.
While walking down a hallway escorted by large men, I heard the soft voice of Vienna. She too had been accepted into the large building.

8:00—The whole day, I was put in a small room with some bunkmates. We were to clean ourselves up and change into necessary clothes. The clothes were provided by the pretty lady. But before we could put on the clothes we were to clean our rooms from the past “guests” and claim our beds. After we were to take showers and put the clothes on. Shortly after a bell rang and a voice came from the walls, it said,
“Dinner time. Everyone is to go to the dining hall where dinner will be served”
I walked down the large hallways. Vienna was walking slowly two people in front of me. I nervously whispered,
“Vienna!”
“Shanna???” She responded in an excited tone of voice.
She stopped in the hallway, then continued walking when she was next to me.
“What’s happening?” I asked in a hurry.
“This is a place where they sell kids, mom and papa didn’t have enough money…they sold us.” She almost cried
“This can’t be! Papa loves us. He would never do such things!!!” I argued.
“Then why are we here? Don’t argue, this is now our life, being sold to people.” She snapped.
“It’s true! Oh, I don’t want to be sold. I want to be with you Vienna!” I cried.
“Stop that, we will get in trouble. Now fix yourself up and go eat.” She said.
I couldn’t believe what was happening. We were sold to this building. People will get us and Vienna might go to somebody else than me. All the thoughts that jumbeled in my head, almost made me walk into the pretty lady.
“Sorry Mrs…Lady. I don’t know where my head is today.” I spoke extra kind.
“That’s alright…Umm, Shanna. Correct?” She questioned.
“Yes, impressive. You have a good memory.” I complimented.
“Why thank you Shanna. You’re a kind girl.” She grinned.
“Your welcome. I didn’t happen to get your name. What would that be?” I questioned
“Mrs. Hawthorn” She answered.
“Right!” I spoke.
“Well let’s not keep you from your dinner.” She smiled.
Then she walked slowly down the hall. I followed and kept quiet. I think she liked me…this could be a good situation.

Belle Boyd

My job for the day is to deliver a large packet of letters to Richmond. But recently I had been exploit at Front Royal, when I became of suspicion to the Union War Department. That same day things took a change for the worse. An undercover detective, from the United States Secret Service in Washington came to Front Royal where I had been staying and arrested me. Later that night I was taken by carriage and train to Washington where I had been placed in a dirty old jail. That jail was the Old Capital Prison. “This jail is where I put the criminal, this is not where I belong.” I was so convinced this was a huge mistake, but I already knew my job was against the law. Impersonating a person is and always will be against the law, many people pointed this out during my stay at Old Captain Prison. All the time I had in the prison could have been time, where I was on the street putting criminals away. This was an out range! All the research and all the information I had learned from my days in Mount Washington, Female College of Baltimore was just put in a cell and placed on hold. After my first stay I was imprisoned and released two more times by the United States Army. Although I never thought I would be in jail again after my first experience. Even though all the time in jail was a huge set back, I moved forward. In the free time I had, marriage was a possibility. Although, who knows, your husband could be a double agent. Samuel Wylde Hardinge worked as a Union naval officer in England during the years of 1864. That same year we met and got married.. After his death, shortly after the war, Belle became an actress in England; before returning to the US. While still in England, I wrote about her dramatic story of my life as a spy. When I arrived back in the US in 1869, I married John Swainston Hammond in New Orleans. Although our marriage lasted long, in 1884 I divorced John Hammond. Although in my two marriage’s I had no children. Children could have been somewhat of an idea, but with a busy life I lived, children weren’t possible.

The war of love

The instant connection of love, a powerful feeling, sometimes mistaken for those of other emotions. Donna Elizabeth Wanton and Ryan Craig Fetch were the perfect example of love. In high school, he walked her to her classes and she helped him with homework. After school, he would go to her track meet’s and she would go to his. He would be playing football during a game, but still would notice her cheerleading moves. The love that these two shared was the type of love bond, never to be broken. Once high school was out, most of the people around town thought they would be broken up as soon as college came around. They proved everybody wrong, when they went to the same college and still managed to stay together. College to them was no different to high school, just the fact that in college there was more parties. And the strong bond that kept both Donna and Ryan together would stay with them much longer than anybody could have imagined.

College was getting out and the first real fight they had been into, just started.
“You are just getting out of college! How can you chose to make your life horrible? If you join the army…you can die!” Donna screamed in an angry tone.
“I know what I’m getting myself into. You don’t think I thought about this before I made my mind up? It doesn’t matter anyway because I already registered.” He said with a smirk on his face.
“Then that must mean you didn’t have any further intentions for us…I thought I don’t know, maybe we would get married some day and start a family. But obviously our priorities are much different.” She softly cried.
“I guess, if you don’t plan to support me it must be over.” He said with no smirk anymore.
“Yeah, were done.” She said as she walked away.
“Well can’t we at least talk about this?” He said.
“There’s nothing to talk about, you already made up your mind.” She sniffled.

Just like that, the instant love between two people were broken. His intentions weren’t going to change, he set his mind on a path and wasn’t about to travel off of the path. He went to war and fought for our country. After a period of two years he had traveled most of the world and still wasn’t done. His latest tour was in Paris, here he couldn’t help think of what to him was the love. The thoughts of Donna and him together again creeped into his mind. In the city of love, he sure couldn’t get Donna out of his mind.

She couldn’t stop thinking about her career, she wanted to do a job and become the best of the best from her job. She right now, after two hard years of work, was a author for a fashion magazine. Her job let her go to every major fashion show and runway show, only to write a column about what she saw there. Her job was almost like a “What’s the new thing in fashion.” type of job. But she didn’t mind it, she was able to travel all over the world for this. Her new traveling destination, Paris. There she wanted to go to a small café she heard wonders about. She also heard that the café was normally really busy and needed a reservation, so she made her reservations at Lulu Café for 7:00 sharp.

That same night that Donna was around the Lulu Café, Ryan was too. He and a couple of his buddies were walking around Paris taking in the sights before they were back off to war. One of Ryan’s buddies Sam was talking about a great café his girlfriend visited when she and her family came out to Paris.
“Hey! Ryan, you know that café I was telling you about. The one that Ashley and her family went to during their vacation?” Sam questioned.
“Yeah, I remember you were telling me about that, you said the coffee was amazing?” Ryan asked.
“Yep, that’s the place. Well I don’t know about you guys, but I wouldn’t mind trying some famous Paris coffee.” Sam said smiling.
“Fine. I’ll go. As long as it doesn’t break the bank.” Ryan joked around.
“It’s cheap to!” laughed Sam.
The buddies from war all started to walk around the street of Paris, until they would reach this café. Finally they got directions and were on their way. As soon as Ryan had walked into the front doors, his heart raced rapidly. He starred at Donna, there she was sitting by herself at a small table with a book, reading something with a small coffee next to her left hand.
“I can’t be here Sam, I have to go.” Ryan blurted.
“Why what’s the problem? You were all excited, but now you look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Sam said scoping out the room.
After a small pause Sam said
“Ahh I see. Go talk to her, it’s been two years.”

Donna could hear the laughter of men coming into the café. She wasn’t looking for a relationship now so she didn’t look up and continued to read her novel. That was until she heard a similar voice. Looking up, Donna saw Ryan. He was standing by the door talking to Sam. She remembered Sam, he was always Ryan’s good friend. She also remembered the army was his idea. Sam’s gaze met with Donnas’ and he looked at Ryan and said something slowly. She looked down and started to act like she was reading again.
“Hi.” Ryan said slowly.
She looked up startled and said cheerfully “Hi.”
“You look different…in a good way.” Ryan smiled.
“Thanks. You look different too, in a good way.” She laughed.
“Why thank you.” He giggled.
“So what have you been up to in these two years?” She questioned.
“Still in the army and proud of it.” He said confident her opinion of the matter were changed.
“I see. Well what are you doing in Paris?” She asked.
“I was stationed here, that is before I go back to the real war.” He spoke solemnly.
“Oh. Well how long are you here for?”
“Not long. Actually maybe a week at the longest.” He said sadly.
“That’s long enough for us to catch up?” She smiled.
Right this very instance he wished things could be the way they once were. When he and her were together.
“We can catch up with letters.” He smiled.
“Sure. Well Ryan, it was nice to see you but I’m meeting friends at 7:30 so I have to go.” She said with excitement.
“Ok” he said handing her a letter.
“What’s this?” She said.
She then flipped it over and saw the date. It was from the first month they broke up. From when he was first in the army. She slowly smiled and hugged him.
“I do miss you.” She said with tears in her eyes.

Just like that the once unbreakable bond that was broken got fixed up and glued back together again. He made a point in each of his days to visit her. They visited the Eiffel tower and all the local shops by it. They even got a chance to catch up. But as the days went by and he was getting closer to leaving and she was getting closer to being alone, she wanted him to never leave. She always wanted something to remember him by.

Friday came quickly and he was off for his new station. She cried and held him as he held her. This was an unbearable moment. She never wished anybody to feel the same way she felt. Her heart felt broken then glued together with a glue, that still allowed a couple of pieces to break again.

Unique Soul 2

“How can this be. I’m not the type of person that can see into the future. It’s just….” I ran on and on. Everybody just starred, this is unbelievable I thought to myself. Slowly I started to back-up think to myself of all the wonders this power could have. Before I finished my train of thought, I tripped over a floor board and the rest was a blur. When I final woke up the area around me was different. It seemed unclear to me what was going on.

“Mom!” I shouted.
There was no response, the room seemed dead. This room wasn’t even a room I was used to, it was different. From the looks of it this room seemed liked a child’s room I had once babysat for. How did I get here when I was all the way at home? Again confusion was thrown in the mix of chaos. This couldn’t be what it seemed like; to me this seemed like everybody was gone. Although my mom just wouldn’t leave me? Would she? All of this was confusing to me, until my mother came running into the room panicking.

“Grab your bag, were leaving again. This area isn’t safe!” Hurry up!” She shouted with a tone of madness mixed in her voice.
I jumped up and grabbed my bag of clothes, which I hadn’t even remembered bringing with me. Now that I had jumped up I realized this was a hotel room. We had been here once before, when we visited my father. But this place was one of the safest places I had come to remember. As a child because of my father’s work, me and my mother often would travel with my dad. But once school had came along, I couldn’t travel with my family. Over a series of episodes, I was left with nannies, and distant family members. Now it was summer and the meadows were blooming, this was the only time I could spend with my family. But now our life’s were in danger and we were once again separated. This time how would we be reunited?

Time went by and again me and my mother were on the road, but the only different, my father wasn’t with us. I had felt like I was alone in my life again. Just like when he and my mom “needed a vacation” from each other. But for some reason this was different. Now that I felt alone nothing else mattered, my dad was my best friend. Even though my mom was still there. It kind of felt like she was really never there. Traveling from one place to another everyday became tiring and boring. It could have been more exciting, maybe if a father figure of some sort could have been tagging along. Instead of a father figure, I had family members.

After 3 months of moving everywhere without a father figure got tiring. Things started to take a turn for the better. The phone lines were back up, the same with heat, lights and water. Even the roads were getting fixed and house being rebuilt. My dad was even able to get in contact with me and take me to his new house. He had everything working there, it was life was normal. The only exceptions were my parents. They talked but my father was getting remarried. And even though it killed me, he was happy. That’s really all that mattered. His new wife to be Clara was sweet, and she liked to help people recover from the Earth’s “Crazy” day. We often went for walks, up to the nature reserve, and helped the animals recover. Today we went for a walk on the Nature preserve, we hiked for 3 miles until we reached a valley on the side of the mountain.

There was a large meadow, me and Clara walked to the center. There we were standing in the meadow, starring at the colorful rainbow. Flowers, of all colors, blue, purple, yellow, orange, blue, green, pink even the colors in between. I starred closely at the tree’s, blowing like crazy; ballet dancers dancing to the nut cracker resembled the tree’s. Everything here was magical, unlike anything ever known. We walked through the meadow and laid down slowly, wishing that all the problems in my life were like this meadow. Peaceful and simple.
